Project Overview

Hödlmayr International GmbH, a major European vehicle logistics company, partnered with Sally Engineering to modernize and expand its digital infrastructure. Our collaboration centered on two key systems:

A modernized Transport Information System (TIS)
A newly developed Data Hub for seamless internal and external system integration

We delivered a scalable, cloud-based architecture that accelerated development cycles, improved data exchange, and laid the groundwork for future innovation.

Project Details

Step-by-step system modernization:

We began our collaboration in late 2022 with the goal of transitioning Hödlmayr’s outdated TIS system — originally built with Java and JSF — to a modern, modular solution. The migration was handled feature by feature, ensuring continuity and stability while introducing performance and UX improvements.

Building the right team:

Initially, our team included Java backend and Angular frontend engineers who provided deep technical expertise in modern frameworks. Later, a .NET developer joined to help develop the foundation of the new Data Hub platform.

Solving legacy performance issues:

The original application suffered from crashes and memory limitations due to poor database performance and suboptimal configuration. We addressed these challenges by increasing Java heap memory, optimizing session management, and introducing observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana. We also implemented database indexing, query optimizations, and cleanup of unnecessary data to improve system stability.

Expanding scope with Data Hub:

In early 2025, our work expanded to include the creation of a centralized integration platform - the Data Hub. Our developer built core functionality to support real-time data exchange between internal systems and external partners using standardized formats and modern cloud infrastructure.
